How could anyone be in a bad mood with that dress? Certainly not me, which is exactly why I bought it. This weekend I realized it’s the small things: dinner at Panera Bread on a Saturday night with just The Kid, shopping and buying the purse and dress I really wanted, putting down the laptop for almost an entire weekend, shopping for granola at the crunchy, granola market.
The last one was a real shocker.
Just kidding. I had loose granola in my house for three years.
Amount I ate?
None.
But I had it. That’s what counts. I HAD IT!
It’s about feeling a tinge of hunger –which feels like forever since that happened — and knowing it will be okay. I’ll make a healthy choice (like that granola up there) or head out to a restaurant and have a burger. Knowing that one is okay, but 15 are not. Or, instead of chips, chowing down on some veggie chips, which I tasted for the first time this weekend.
It’s the small things.
Like The Kid’s killer sense of humor or the ability to pay for groceries with our debit card instead of a check; which bought us a few days. Or, that my hair has finally grown back to the length it was two years ago when I suddenly thought: I WANT A PIXIE and then the next day made that pixie happen and three days later regretted it.
DO NOT evah, let me talk myself into a pixie again.
Or watching Bethany Ever After and hearing her say that until she was 40, she didn’t own a thing. And that she used to write rent checks two weeks late.
Oh, that was a good one.
When my business manager told me that YOU MUST DO THIS because something could be taken from me, she rattled off a huge list of “things” that could be taken.
Yeah, nothing can be taken.
Seen GoodFellas? I’m like the legitimate Henry Hill. Except for my social, ya got nothing. The Kid is going to be the youngest Scion XB owner in a little under a year.
Don’t tell her, though.
It’s the little things.
Like calling a friend, holding hands after 11-years, sleeping past noon, staying up until the wee hours, working from home, making things happen, The Kid scoring twice at basketball, or her playing the violin with the Titanic on TV. Enjoying a birthday dinner with my entire family and enjoying it.
It’s the small things.
